Mommy: Q & A

Thanks Mommy Mickee.

How did you feel during those first few days after the birth?
I gave birth via CS. I felt tired and a little bit disappointed because I was hoping that I would give birth vaginally.

How were you emotionally?
I was ok though I was a bit scared as this is my first baby. But I would cry when I couldn’t stop him from crying. I felt incompetent.

Is there anything you wish people had told you about the postpartum period?
I wish I was told to really do the things I want to do, to buy myself things that I wanted. When the baby came, even my time to go to the bathroom or eat was dependent on this little creature. When we shop, I no longer shop for myself but for him na. And the cost of his check-ups, vaccines and milk prevented me from spending too much. :(
How long do you plan to breastfeed?
I planned to breastfeed for as long as I can. But I was able to do so for around 6-7 months only, it was mixed-feeding pa.

Do you have any advice for getting through those first weeks of breastfeeding?
I think, one has to be really dedicated. It is not easy since you’re all tired from giving birth and you’re having all sorts of emotions. Asking advise and support from other breastfeeding mommies will greatly help as well.

Was there any stress between you and your husband over the baby?
No. My husband helped a lot. He changes his diapers, helps me in bathing him, sometimes he bathes him all by himself and he’s the one who wakes up in the night to make milk for the baby until now.

Let’s talk about your body. Did things get totally rearranged?
Let’s not talk about my body. hihihi.

Care to share how much you weighed before and how much now?
Around 110 lbs pre-pregnancy. 140 lbs when I was nearing delivery. Now, it’s TOP SECRET!

What advice-or comfort-can you offer other new moms about their weight ?
Kaya natin ‘to! ;D

How important is it for you to have a work identity?
Family is first. I quit my job to personally take care of the baby. I am just so lucky that my husband can support us.

Was your baby a lot of fun right from the start?
Not really. But I miss those times when we he was still little. He’s already one, and he’s growing up fast.

What’s your baby like now?
He smiles, giggles, shouts a lot, loves to crawl, can walk 3 steps on his own, napakalikot, enjoyes removing the sheets of his playpen, loves Dora, Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Clifford, loves watching commercials.

Other mommies, care to share?
