He’s coming out…

March 19, 2005 Saturday
:: I had my check-up and still 1cm dilated. I was 1cm for 2 weeks already, and it was nearing my due date. OB did something to initiate labor. He removed a paste-like substance, I forgot what it’s called ;D.
:: OB prepared admittance slip for Monday March 21, as he wanted me to give birth before full term. He didn’t want me to give birth after my EDD, which is March 22, since a lot of things could happen daw to the baby. Personally, I also didn’t want to give birth past my due date.
:: OB thought that I could give birth anytime so he didn’t allow me go anywhere far, but still went out that day.
:: Walked that night for about an hour.
:: Still no signs of going in labor yet, though there were occasional pains but they were still bearable.

March 20, 2005 Palm Sunday
:: Had brownish mucous discharge late lunch and evening.
:: Still no pains. There were contractions once in a while but still bearable.
:: Walked that night for about an hour. (And did I mention na while taking a walk, I was eating either ice cream, mr. chips or pretzels? Hehe)

March 21, 2005 Holy Monday
:: Had another discharge in the morning.
:: Went to the hospital for admittance as per OB’s advice.
:: I was induced the whole day, but dilated only up to 3 cm.

:: I had IE several times to check dilation.
:: The OB-on-duty commented “ang sarap ko daw mag-labor” as I wasn’t experiencing any painful contractions.
:: I was getting bored. I had finished reading the magazines we brought. I wasn’t allowed to eat so there wasn’t much to do. I was even requesting to be transferred to the regular room so I could at least watch some TV. But it wasn’t possible as I was attached to the machine that monitors the baby.
:: I was brought to my room at around 9 pm.
:: Salamat! I was allowed to have a light dinner.
:: Nurses would check up on me through the night to ask if I was having contractions na. Hay, nothing still.

March 22, 2005 Holy Tuesday
:: Had a light breakfast before going to Genesis to be induced again.
:: At 11 am, I was still 3-4 cm dilated - very sloowww progress.
:: OB decided to break my water bag to aid my contractions. Medicine for induction was likewise increased.
:: AND the real labor began…
:: Had painful, painful contractions after the water bag broke.
:: I was sweating so j had to fan me as I was feeling really hot.
:: Then contractions would stop…
:: But not for long… ilang sandali lang, eto na naman sila…
:: After 2 hours (around 1 pm), had an IE & STILL no progress! I was asking the nurses if I could have the epidural already as it was extremely painful. But they said my OB advised that I could have the epidural if I was 7 cm dilated already.
:: When my OB came, I asked him to give me something to lighten the pain. They injected something that supposed to make me dizzy but to no avail. It didn’t work. I could still feel the pain!
:: So I just waited for my labor to progress. I read that once the water bag broke, one can dilate 1 cm per hour. So I would just have to wait 4 more hours to reach 7 cm then I could have the epidural. Pero 2 hours had passed already pero wala pa din progress! Bad!
:: Then, my baby’s heart rate was dropping below 120 which was not good. So they gave me oxygen for the baby and I was made to lie on my left side.
:: At 2 pm, I was thinking of having CS already since according to my OB, my baby’s head had “bukol” already (I forgot the medical term for that bukol.) because he was trying to come out na. (My baby was so ready na weeks before. During my previous check-ups, my OB could already feel my baby’s head. He even thought that I would have an easy labor as everything’s into position already.)
:: I then told my OB to do a CS on me as it was very painful and my labor was not progressing. But OB still waited as they were not allowed to do a CS just because the patient wanted it.
:: Then at 3 pm I was prepared for a CS delivery. J was asked to get into his scrub suit.
:: I never felt the needle inserted in my spine. I didn’t know if the anesthesiologist was good or the contractions were just so very painful.
:: Hay, sarap ng feeling after the anesthesia.
:: I wasn’t feeling anything waist down but I was wide awake. I even heard my OB asking the staff for some music.
:: Then the operation began. I was still awake and not feeling anything. I knew I was already open when I heard someone say na “puro baby daw ang laman ng tyan ko”. Salamat naman. My tummy kasi was not really big. I had received comments like “bakit ang liit ng tyan mo”, etc etc. Those comments got me a little worried.

At 3:41 pm, Ernesto III was born. J was called to get closer to capture the moment on camera.

Baby was then brought to the huggery. And I was brought to the recovery room.
